Considered one of the parameters that usually cause concern after receiving the outcomes of a blood count is the RDW (red cell blood distribution width) <\/em>or \u2018red cell distribution width test\u2019. It indicates the variability in the scale of red blood cells<\/strong>, that are chargeable for transporting oxygen from the lungs to the remainder of the body\u2019s cells. What do high or low values indicate?<\/p>\n

A high RDW indicates that there\u2019s a big difference between the scale of the smallest and largest red blood cells. What’s RDW?<\/h2>\n

The RDW (red blood cell distribution width)<\/em> is a parameter that is an element of the entire blood count or CBC test<\/strong>. It reflects the scale distribution of red blood cells (erythrocytes) and is expressed in percentages, with normal values being 12 to fifteen%.<\/p>\n

A term that sometimes refers to something similar is anisocytosis<\/em><\/a>, although the latter is a consequence of direct commentary of red blood cells in a peripheral blood smear (under the microscope).<\/p>\n
