Asda announced that\u00a0 it’s\u00a0 bringing back it\u2019s popular cafe \u2018winter warmer\u2019 \u00a31 meal deal to support the over 60\u2019s this winter, as they proceed to face increased financial pressures in the course of the cost-living crisis.<\/p>\n

From 1st November until the top of February, Asda are offering people aged 60 and over the possibility to enjoy soup, a roll and unlimited tea and coffees for just \u00a31 in any of Asda\u2019s 205 cafes. The retailer first launched Winter Warmers in November 2022 for 2 months in a bid to support older customers who were disproportionately affected by the spiralling living costs, with 65-to-74-year-olds experiencing a \u00a3163 year-on-year drop in disposable income in August 2022. The initiative saw over 650,000 \u00a31 soup meals served, the retailer has prolonged the deal until February 28th <\/sup>in 2024.<\/p>\n

The offer is on the market all day, day by day and can run alongside the Kids eat for \u00a31\u2019 offer which continues to be hugely popular, with greater than 2.6 million meals served since its launch in June 2022, and over 180,000 within the last 4 weeks alone.<\/p>\n

The most recent figures from Asda\u2019s income tracker reveal that 40% of the bottom earning households are still experiencing negative disposable income in September, meaning that their income doesn’t cover what they should spend on bills and other essentials.<\/p>\n

Kris Comerford, Asda\u2019s Chief Business Officer said:<\/i><\/b>\u00a0\u201cWe all know winter is ready to be incredibly hard for 1000’s of pensioners as they proceed to fret about how you can keep themselves warm within the face of rising living costs and on a hard and fast income.<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cLast 12 months we served over 650,000 meals to the over 60\u2019s in two months, by bringing the initiative back for 2023 and lengthening it until February we hope it should prove just as impactful across the winter months for many who need it most.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

Along with the Winter Warmers, the Kids Eat for \u00a31 meal deal continues to be popular with families, now serving over 2.6 million meals because it\u2019s launch back in June 2022.<\/p>\n

Chosen Asda stores also run a \u2018Community Cuppa\u2019 campaign in our cafes by creating space for community groups who may otherwise struggle to satisfy on account of rental costs or high energy costs. Spaces will probably be available on weekdays in November and December from 2pm to 6pm and all community group members who visit will receive unlimited free tea or coffee.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
