Dog owners have higher cognitive health<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A recent study tracking the well-being of a bunch of pet owners over several years found a link between dog ownership and higher cognition<\/a>. While for most individuals, cognitive function deteriorates with age, dog owners had increased<\/em> cognitive abilities as measured on two tests\u2014the Boston naming test, which assesses language, and the Digit Symbol Substitution test, which correlates with an individual\u2019s ability to do on a regular basis tasks.<\/p>\n

What particularly surprised Erika Friedmann, PhD<\/a>, the study\u2019s lead writer, was that there was no significant difference in cognitive changes between individuals who walked their dogs and people who didn\u2019t. Such an approach could go a protracted technique to keeping dog owners healthier\u2014and happier\u2014for longer.<\/p>\n
