However the mainstream news can often be bias, pushing some happenings greater than others, specializing in some topics heavily and neglecting others.<\/span><\/p>\n Here at MoneyMagpie, we consider within the importance of sharing the newest that many mainstream outlets could have didn’t, or deliberately selected to not, cover.<\/span><\/p>\n Every week, we\u2019ll be rounding up a number of the top stories that you’ll have missed.<\/span><\/p>\n Slovakia has rewritten its structure in response to fears over a possible \u201cdigital euro\u201d. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The Slovak Parliament passed the proposed law, which enshrines recent legal rights to money payment, on June 15, in what has been described as a \u201cpreventative measure\u201d to safeguard the country\u2019s \u201cfinancial sovereignty\u201d.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Milo Svrek, who co-authored the bill, told MPs that the brand new laws would protect Slovakian businesses and consumers \u201cagainst any orders from the surface, saying there can only be the \u2018digital euro\u2019 and no other payment options\u201d.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The move by the European Union (EU) member state follows recent discussions by Brussels a few possible EU-wide Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) just like Nigeria\u2019s ill-fated eNaira or the proposed \u201cBritcoin\u201d currently under consultation within the UK.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n CBDC\u2019s are viewed with suspicion by many civil rights\u2019 campaigners, economists and experts, as our founder Jasmine has previously reported<\/a>, not least due to there possible misuse by future authoritarian governments.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Unlike money or debit card payments, CBDCs are \u201cprogrammable\u201d, meaning a government or central bank is capable of place controls on what the \u2018digital euro\u2019, eNaira or Britcoin is spent on. CBDCs could also, theoretically, have expiry dates applied to them by central banks to make consumers spend money during a recession.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Contrary to some reports, the amendments to the Slovak structure is not going to give consumers the fitting to pay by money in shops.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Confusingly, the bill intends to each protect consumers\u2019 rights to make use of money as a type of payment, while also enshrining store owners\u2019 legal right to refuse money payments so as to safeguard business owners from \u201crobberies and exposure to germs\u201d amongst other things.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
