Meet Caleb Hugo

Caleb Hugo didn’t start in tech. After earning an MA in music composition from Michigan State University, his tech journey began in 2015. As a Quality Analyst in automation, Hugo was able to learn in regards to the tech industry and eventually waded into front-end development. Now he brings his passions and skills to Liquid Web as a Software Development Engineer.

Why did you join Liquid Web?

After considering job offers from Liquid Web and one other, larger company, I settled on Liquid Web partly because I’ve at all times desired to work for a smaller company. I like the relaxed culture and openness that comes together with that territory. But in addition, Liquid Web already had a popularity with me for being a really comfortable and open-minded working environment. I knew I could do my best work here, which has been the case since day one.

What draws you to the hosting industry as a profession?

I like being a component of the mechanics that make the Web possible. It’s the Gutenberg revolution of our age, and I’m thrilled to be a component of it.

Is there something specific about Liquid Web you simply love?

I’ve at all times been allowed to work by myself time and at my very own pace. Liquid Web cares more in regards to the quality of my work than where, when, or how I produce it. It’s one in all few corporations like this.

What’s your favorite part in regards to the company culture at Liquid Web?

Care is given where it matters. Nobody is putting on a facade to make a great impression. This makes it very easy to know what is basically on everyone’s mind and facilitates higher, faster decision-making, all in service of the shopper.

In your eyes, what’s the difference between Liquid Web and other employers?

It is usually said that the one real resource we have now is time, but I don’t think that’s quite right. The resource is definitely attention, and you may tell what an organization cares about by seeing where a lot of the attention is. At Liquid Web, the entire attention is given to where it matters. As an alternative of giving attention to where/when/how I built something, the eye is given as to if or not what I built best serves our customers. So at Liquid Web, I actually have the chance not only to do my best work but in addition to do the appropriate work.

What’s the most important milestone you’ve achieved?

Rewriting the deployment pipeline for my.liquidweb.com was a significant accomplishment. It was beyond the on a regular basis writing of javascript and helped me learn loads more in regards to the industry.

What are you known for at Liquid Web? What do people specifically come to you for?

Testing! Having started off as a high quality analyst – automation, I actually have been writing automated tests since before I knew tips on how to code. Writing tests is my favorite a part of being a developer.

Work aside, what are a few of your hobbies?

I enjoy cooking, nutrition, brain science, and philosophy, to call a number of hobbies. Music continues to be a component of my life but has grow to be a hobby. I’ve still done a little bit of writing, teaching, and playing in various capacities. Nonetheless, I’m in that stage of life where very young children occupy most of my affection and, after all, time! Once my kids are sufficiently old, I’m sure we’ll start a band.

What’s your favorite TV show?

I like Agents of Shield since it’s a well-plotted sci-fi motion adventure with wealthy character development and hilarious comic relief. That just about checks all of my boxes for a TV series!

For those who could have dinner with one star [dead or alive], who would it not be?

I would really like to have dinner with Dietrich Bonhoeffer because he was each an mental giant and a humble spiritual guide who proved his convictions were authentic through the last word sacrifice. Engaging with a personality like that might be life-changing.

We hope you enjoyed our series, and stay tuned for the following Helpful Human profile.
